We all have heard of Shaq ONeil even if you have never watched him in a game, and that is because he is one sports figure we can look up to. He seems to be a good role model for children. One of his ventures is to help show our children the benefits of exercise and weight control. In a society where fast food, video games and television are part of most every child’s day, our children are getting obese in alarming numbers.
Shaq sees this trend and is willing to do his part to show the children those activities such as walking, running and just moving around can be fun. He hope to show these children that there is more to life then Xbox and other actives that hold are children in a sitting position. Hip dips are the result of the positioning of your pelvis and thighbone at the right place. It will be effective for the children and young people.
Our bodies are not designed to sit immobile for hours staring at a television screen or a computer monitor. Our bodies are designed for movement, that is why we have so many muscles, and joints that bend at will most of the time. Sitting and playing video games, leads to a lot of health problems but the most notable are obesity and its effects on our bodies.
Walking is the best activity for someone who is over weight, because it burns some calories and gets your body in the habit of movement. After a person looses some of the weight, that child will feel more energetic and will begin to get more involved in other activities.
Shaq’s challenge is to help eliminate childhood obesity in children and he does this by involving the whole family into the plan of action. Studies do show that if at least one parent is overweight at least one child will be obese as well.
Our diets are too high in fat, and that is part of the problem. To many times us hurried parents just toss something together for supper. We never give calories or fat content a second thought. The kids are hungry so we just feed them, because we are good parents who want out children to be not hungry.
Then we buy them video games, movies and nice stereos that they ask for. These gifts do not really help them to lead a more active lifestyle. Hey just make our kids happy for a short time.
We are not doing them any favors by giving into their wants. We need to put more emphasis on their needs rather then their wants. I know it is hard I have three children myself. They need to get up off their butts and do some type of activity that keeps them moving for a while. Unless we put our foot down on their wants and start giving them what they need, we will continue having these obese children. No parent wants to give their child a death sentence but that is really, what we are doing by allowing them to be lazy.
